JAMES GERALD "GARY GAMBRELL, resident of Cordova, retired JCPenney Company Manager after 35 years and U.S. Army Veteran, died at 11:25 P.M. Sunday, August 24 at his residence. He was 73 years of age and died following an eleven-month illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Gambrell were conducted at 7 P.M. Thursday, August 28th at the Graveside with his dear friend and fellow golfer, Rev. Furniss B. Harkness, Pastor of the Bethany Christian Church at Eads, officiating. Special Remarks were given by his son, Tim Gambrell. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64 at Oakland. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Gambrell was born December 11, 1934. He was a native of Greenville, SC, and was preceded in death by his parents, D. T. Gambrell and Marguerite Owens Gambrell. He was educated in the Greenville Public School System and was a 1960 Graduate of Furman University.
He served Stateside in the United States Army during the Korean War Period and was married June 12, 1960 to the former Margaret Durham, who survives.

Mr. Gambrell's employment career spanned a period of 35 years with the JCPenney Company, where he served as Manager of various Company locations in the Mid-South, before his retirement in 1995. Upon his retirement he moved to Memphis, TN, thirteen years ago, where he enjoyed time with his grandson, golf, tennis, gardening, and fellowship at Second Presbyterian Church in Memphis.

A family oriented person with a love for life, Mr. Gambrell also enjoyed music with a special interest in Jazz and Classical selections.

In addition to his wife of 48 years, Mr. Gambrell is survived by his daughter, Christina Marshall of Cordova; son Tim Gambrell (wife Robin) of St. Louis, MO; grandson Drew Marshall of Cordova and sister Gail Brooks of Clemson, SC.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Military Personnel.
