John R. Denley, Jr., age 74, resident of Collierville, Tennessee and husband of Donna Denley, departed this life Saturday morning, December 25, 2021 at the Naval Station in Millington, Tennessee.
John was born February 22, 1947 in Coffeeville, Mississippi, the son of the late John R. Denley, Sr. and Carmen Pate Denley. He received his education in Coffeeville and served his country in the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer, retiring from the United States Department of Defense. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a Vietnam Veteran who served three tours. John was a former resident of Bartlett and Brownsville, Tennessee and was married May 27, 1978 to the former Donna Bartram. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Brownsville. Mr. Denley was a great wealth of historical knowledge and enjoyed Civil War reenactments including Morton’s Battery, carpentry and farming.
Mr. Denley is survived by his wife, Donna Denley; two sons, John Paul Denley (Becky) of Hudson, FL and Ronald Denley (Debbie) of Little River, SC; his sister, Margaret McGrory (Charlie); his sister-in-law, Diane E. Keeling (Larry) of Prescott Valley, AZ; eight grandchildren, Amber Denley, Austin Denley, Brandon Denley, Devon Denley, Rylee Denley, Charleigh Denley, Abbi Denley and Phillip Denley; two great-grandchildren; six nieces, Renee Horvath, Tara Mear, Rachel May, Rebecca Manley, Amber Meehan and Emily McGrory; two nephews, Jason Keeling and Nick Keeling; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and his very special extended family, Roger Wild and Judy Love.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cindy Denley and his brother, Richard Denley.
Memorial Services for Mr. Denley were held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Lonnie Robinson, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Brownsville, officiating. A private interment will be in the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the organization of the donor's choice.
