AURELIA INELL TEAGUE, resident of the Rossville Community and well-known area Educator for many years before her retirement died Wednesday morning November 11, 2009 at the Methodist Fayette Hospital in Somerville where she had been a patient for one week. She was 95 years of age and died following a three-week illness.
Funeral services for Miss Teague were conducted at 1 P.M. Friday, November 13th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Jim Griffith, Pastor of the Moscow and Rossville United Methodist Churches, officiating. Interment followed in the Bethlehem Cemetery near Moscow. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Miss Teague was born April 20, 1914 in the Moscow Community. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Bennie Teague and Nanny Jane Hollida Teague, early residents of the Moscow, Hayes Crossing and Rossville Community areas.
She was a graduate of the Collierville High School and received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees after completing her education at the University of Memphis, the University of North Carolina, Vanderbilt University and the George Peabody College for Teachers.
Miss Teague and her late sister Vida were well-known in the area for their passion for teaching and education. They enjoyed traveling and teaching at various schools that included Fayette Academy, Williston Elementary School, Rossville Christian Academy, the University of Memphis and the University of Texas.
Miss Teague's vocation permitted her to live in various communities throughout her life, nevertheless she remained proud of her Fayette County heritage and upbringing.
A multi-talented person she enjoyed music, playing the organ, gardening, cross-stitching, petit-point, animals and growing orchids in the green house attached to the family residence.
She was active in her community and attended the Rossville Methodist Church until becoming a resident of the National Healthcare Center in Somerville five years ago.
She had a lifelong love for young people and instilled in them the values of education and integrity. She was active in the "Meals on Wheels" program in her community as long as health permitted and received much enjoyment from assisting others without the need for receiving praise or recognition.
Survivors of Miss Teague include two nephews, Royce Dunn (Sadie) of Rossville and Royan Dunn (Jean) of Collierville and eight great-nieces- and -nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Vida Wyline Teague and Oletta Dunn and her brother, B. F. Teague.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Carl Gurkin, Raymond Dougan, J. C. Gurkin, Billy Waller, Ronny Dunn and David Dunn.
