Albert Morris “Odie” Pleasants, Sr., resident of the Moscow Community, United States Army Veteran and husband of Mary Pleasants died Friday morning, July 13, 2012 at his residence. He was 85 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Pleasants were conducted at 3:30 P.M. Sunday, July 15th at the Morris Memorial Baptist Church in Moscow with Bro. Greg Cook, pastor of the church, officiating. Personal remarks were given by a son, Albert M. Pleasants, Jr. Interment followed in the Pleasants Cemetery near Rossville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Pleasants was born February 27, 1927 in Collierville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Miles H. Pleasants and Cora Joyner Pleasants. He received his education in the Kirk Community and the Fayette County Public School System. Mr. Pleasants was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in the 198th Ordnance Corps. He was married August 23, 1947 to the former Mary Shelton, who survives.
Mr. Pleasants had a lifelong love for farming and the outdoors. He was employed as a welder for the Carrier Corporation in Collierville for 20 years before his retirement. He was a lifelong resident of the Moscow, Rossville and Kirk Community areas and was a devoted member of the Morris Memorial Baptist Church at Moscow. He had been a resident of the Moscow Community for the last 41 years. He had a passion for hunting and fishing and enjoyed bird dogs and the rural way of life. Mr. Pleasants will be remembered as a person with Christian values and devoted to his family and his church.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, Mr. Pleasants is survived by two daughters, Sherry P. Carpenter (James) of Moscow, Deborah P. Anthony (Jimmy) of Rossville; two sons, Albert M. Pleasants, Jr. (Beverly) of Tupelo, MS, John P. Pleasants (Corennea) of Collierville; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Adam Pleasants, Zachary Pleasants, Isaac Carpenter, Joseph Williams, Michael Evans and Cory McCullough.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Disabled American Veterans, 4162 Hadley Drive, Lakeland, TN 38002.
