Alice Faye Pennington McNabb, resident of Etta, Mississippi, former resident of Fayette County and wife of the late Franklin McNabb departed this life Sunday morning, October 13, 2013 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi where she had been a patient for three weeks. She was 75 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. McNabb were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, October 16th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Bobby Irwin, pastor of the Philadelphia Baptist Church in Etta, Mississippi officiating. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. McNabb was born May 20, 1938 in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Pennington and Pauline Hurst Pennington. She received her education in the Tennessee Public School System and was the wife of the late Franklin Robert McNabb, a well-known Fayette County farmer and landowner who preceded her in death July 15, 1977.
Mrs. McNabb and her family were involved in agriculture in Fayette County for much of their lives. She moved in 1989 to Etta, Mississippi to be near family members and was employed as a public relations manager for the Wal-Mart Corporation at Oxford, Mississippi before her retirement.
She was a devoted member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church at Etta and will be remembered as an avid reader who enjoyed entertaining and gardening. To her family and friends, she modeled the importance of hard work and independence. Mrs. McNabb saw good things in unexpected places and endured suffering with grace. She had many friends and never met a stranger. Her special friends, the “Teacup Ladies”, took care of her during her bout with cancer.
In earlier years, Mrs. McNabb enjoyed riding her motorcycle from the family farm to Somerville and colorful hats and clothing were her trademark. Her most cherished memories were made around the family she held most dear. Those who knew Mrs. McNabb best were blessed by her warm smile and uplifting spirit.
Mrs. McNabb is survived by her daughter, Debbie Norwood (Terry) of Etta, MS; three sons, Robert McNabb (Martha) of Somerville, John McNabb of Etta, MS, Joshua McNabb (Farrah) of Somerville; four sisters, Betty McDaniel, Eunice Pennington, Patricia Pennington, Sandra Pennington; her brother, Charles Pennington; eight grandchildren, Addison McNabb, Katelyn McNabb, Seth McNabb, Ben McNabb, Toby McNabb, Franklin Norwood, Jacob Norwood, Dr. Allison Norwood-Tate (Josh); and her great grandson, Lemuel Norwood Tate.
