Alta Mae (Hostetler) Miller

Alta Mae (Hostetler) Miller, 87, died in Covington County, MS on August 23, 2021. She was born on November 20, 1933 at Burton, Ohio to the late Dan and Emma (Gingerich) Hostetler.

She was a faithful member of Whiteville Mennonite Church. She faithfully supported her husband as a pastor's wife and hosted the many guests who came to their home.

She was married to John M. Miller on November 24, 1955 for 60 years, 9 months, and 7 days.  Her husband preceded her in death on August 31, 2016.  She is survived by five children; Dan (Rhoda) Miller, Itasca, TX; Ellen (Simon) Schrock, Stuarts Draft, VA; Owen (Cheryl) Miller, Mt. Olive, MS; Cora (Marvin) Chupp, Orrstown, PA; Catherine (Merlin) Mast, Bolivar, TN; 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include her sisters; Cora Miller, Mary (Crist) Detwiler, and Esther (Chester) Troyer; and sisters-in-law; Esther Hostetler, Mary Hostetler, and Barbara Miller.

Alta was preceded in death by a grandson; Karl Chupp and a great-granddaughter, Aubree Weaver; brothers, Melvin Hostetler and Dan Hostetler; one sister, Sarah Hostetler; and brothers-in-law, Joe Miller, Joe D.J. Miller, and Roman Miller.

Alta was a homemaker. She enjoyed making good food and having her family and others enjoy it with her.  Springtime was a favorite season for Alta. She took great pleasure in gardening and tending her beautiful flowers. Alta, with her family, left a colorful trail from northeastern Ohio to Virginia to Tennessee, and finally to Mississippi.

The funeral service was held at 10 AM on Friday, August 27, 2021 at the Whiteville Mennonite Church. The officiating ministers were Kevin Yoder, L.J. Helmuth, Ray Kauffman and Paul Overholt.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Mark Miller, Philip Miller, Robert Schrock, Kyle Miller, Anthony Chupp, Zachary Chupp, Jackson Mast and Franklin Mast.
