ALVIN WAYNE DAVIS a resident of the Somerville Community and husband of Tina Davis, died at 5:15 A.M., Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for thirteen days. He was 58 years of age.
Funeral services for Mr. Davis were conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday, November 22nd at Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with the Rev. Jim Perry of Moscow and Rev. Tony Watkins of Somerville, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Perry Cemetery at Laconia. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Davis was born October 25, 1950 in Fayette County to the late A.W. "Goat Knob" and Clara Jewell Davis. He was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville, Class of 1970.
Mr. Davis was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and was co-owner and employed at Memphis Sign Erectors for the past 20 years. He was employed for most of his life in the sign erection business and was a Staff Sgt. in the Tennessee National Guard for 16 years. His interests included fishing, hunting and NASCAR activities.
Mr. Davis was a family oriented person who enjoyed special times with his children and grandchildren. He was married September 24, 1988 to the former Tina Tice Bell of Lamar, Mississippi who survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Davis is survived by two sons, Brian Davis (Lana) of Hernando, Mississippi, Jason Davis of Somerville; his daughter, Nikki Hoskins (William) of Whiteville; five brothers, Billy Davis (Mary), Mike Davis (Janice) both of Somerville, Jerry Davis (Kay) of Oakland, Johnny Davis (Donna) of Moscow, and Larry Davis (Dianne) of Sardis, Mississippi; three sisters, Barbara Price (Donnie) of Bakersfield, Missouri, Donna Richardson (Chet) of Oakland and Patricia Beleau (James) of Greenfield, TN; five grandchildren, Brianna Davis, Samantha Davis, Alex Davis, Vladyslava Levchenko and Jaclyn Hoskins; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Those honored to be casket bearers were Bob Thurman, Michael Davis, Bryce Davis, T. J. Davis, Lane McDowell, Johnny Davis and Brandon McDowell.
The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Fayette County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
