Anna Frances (Spurlin) Thomas

April 19, 1937 — February 26, 2014

Anna Frances Spurlin Thomas, resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late Lawrence “Junior” Thomas, departed this life Wednesday evening, February 26, 2014 at the Methodist Hospital in Somerville. She was 76 years of age and died following an illness of two months.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Thomas were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, March 2nd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Jim Whitley, pastor of the Liberty Baptist Church at Laconia, officiating. Personal remarks were given by Bro. Claudie Hammers of Haywood County. Interment followed in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Thomas was born April 19, 1937 in Holly Springs, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Spurlin and Ruth Fore Spurlin. She received her education in the Marshall County, Mississippi Public School System and was married September 4, 1952 to Lawrence “Junior” Thomas of Fayette County, a heavy equipment operator for Fowler Construction Company, before his death on June 13, 2004.

Mrs. Thomas was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was a homemaker for much of her life. She also enjoyed serving before her retirement as a housekeeper for the church that she loved and supported, the Liberty Baptist Church at Laconia. She had been a resident of Fayette County for over 50 years and her interests included knitting, crocheting and puzzles.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by four daughters, Judy Ann Thomas Cook of Somerville, Susan Thomas of Somerville, Virginia “Ruth” Morrow of Somerville, Rachel Thomas Wilkerson of Somerville; two sisters, Inez Webb of Ripley, TN, Mary Burse of Dyersburg, TN; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, William Lawrence Thomas who died May 17, 1966 and her sister, Minnie Lee Midkiff.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were John Michael Cook, Robbie Thomas, Jonathan Cook, Robert “ReRun” Kee, Thomas Wilkerson, Andy Curtis, Jeremiah Matthews and Brian Blottiaux.
