Annie Jean Whitaker Newton, age 84, resident of El Paso, Texas and wife of the late Billy Thompson Newton, died Tuesday morning, October 31, 2017 at her residence.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Newton were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Ricky Pearson officiating. Interment followed in the Saulsbury Cemetery in Saulsbury, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Newton was born August 23, 1933 in Moscow, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Euddle Whitaker and Melba Parker Johnson. She was a former resident of Fayette County, Tennessee, Memphis, Tennessee and Nesbit, Mississippi. Mrs. Newton was married to Billy Thompson Newton who preceded her in death on July 9, 2011. She was employed as a meat wrapper at Creech & Quesnel Big Star in earlier years and was a member of Cherokee Baptist Church. Mrs. Newton was Miss Fayette County in 1948.
Mrs. Newton is survived by her daughter, Sandra Pearson (Ricky) of El Paso, TX and her grandchildren, Jeremy (Sara) of Traverse City MI, Aaron (Katie) of Belvidere IL and Amanda (Jeremy) of Gladstone MI. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, Emma, Eli, Carly, Isaac, and Tally.
The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
