Armour Ray Sherman, resident of the Bartlett Community with extended family members in Fayette County and a United States Veteran, departed this life Monday evening, January 6, 2014 at the Covington Manor Nursing Home where he resided for two years and three months. He was 66 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Sherman will be conducted at 1 P.M. Monday, January 13th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with visitation one hour before services. Interment will be at 10:15 A.M. Wednesday, January 15th in the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery near Germantown. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Sherman was born November 13, 1947 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Manuel Sherman and Linnie Agnes Shepard Sherman. He received his education in the Shelby County Public School System and attended Humes High School in Memphis. He was a member of the Church of Christ and served his country for two years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Period.
He was a lifelong resident of West Tennessee and had been employed as a subcontractor and floor installer in the Memphis area for much of his life before retiring two years ago for health reasons. He will be remembered as a person dedicated to his work and had a reputation for being a competent floor installer. Mr. Sherman was a people-person who enjoyed the friendships of many. His great sense of humor, his love for the Dallas Cowboys and his Hawaiian trip were well-known by the people who loved him.
Mr. Sherman is survived by his wife, Pamela Berryhill Sherman of Somerville; his daughter, Shauna Sherman of North Carolina; two sons, Bobby Ray Sherman (Becky) of Bartlett, Devin Wayne Sherman of Memphis; three sisters, Faye Wolfenbarger of Chesapeake Bay, VA, Daris Perry of Munford, TN, Virginia Bercillio of Montrose, CO; his brother, Wayne Sherman of Montrose, CO; and four grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
