Arthur Thomas Joyner

August 27, 1925 — October 23, 2015

Arthur Thomas “Tom” Joyner, age 90, resident of the Hickory Withe Community, husband of Betty Joyner and retired guard for Shelby County Division of Corrections departed this life Friday morning, October 23, 2015 at his residence.

A Service of Rememberance for Mr. Joyner was conducted at 11 A.M. Monday, October 26 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Interment followed in the Slayden Cemetery in Slayden, Mississippi. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Joyner was born August 27, 1925 in Fayette County, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Joyner and Clara High. He received his education in the Fayette County School System and was married to Betty Joyner for 16 years.

Mr. Joyner was of the Baptist religion and enjoyed hunting.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Joyner is survived by his daughter, Phyllis (Bubba) Grady of Austin, TX; his son, James Joyner of Munford, TN; two sisters, Louise Gilmore of Collierville, TN and Mittie (Johnny) Halfacre of Memphis, TN; his brother, Paul (Edith) Joyner of Eads, TN; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Flora Joyner; his son, Richard Joyner; his sister, Annie Taylor; and three brothers, Roy Lee Joyner, Bernard Joyner and Bud Joyner.
