Audine (Ethridge) Hitt

Audine Ethridge Hitt, age 92, resident of Cordova, Tennessee, native of Philadelphia and wife of the late James A. Hitt, departed this life Wednesday morning, October 15, 2014 at the Applingwood Healthcare Center in Cordova.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Hitt were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, October 18th with Mrs. Hitt's son-in-law, Bro. Ed Nix, officiating. Interment followed in the Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City, Mississippi. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Hitt was born September 18, 1922 in Philadelphia, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will Ethridge and Sue Ella Gamblin Ethridge. She studied nutrition at the University of Southern Mississippi and was married February 22, 1941 to James A. Hitt, who preceded her in death. She was employed as a cafeteria manager for the Jones County, Mississippi County Schools for a number of years before her retirement.

Mrs. Hitt is survived by her daughter, Nora Audine Nix (Ed) of Columbus, MS; her son, Raymond F. Hitt (Marsha) of Fayetteville, TN; five grandchildren, John Nix, Kathy Smith, Martha Imes, Matthew Hitt, Alicia Goolsby; and fourteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James Lamar Hitt.
