Ayako Ushizima “Pat” Feathers, resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late Bro. Carl Feathers, longtime Fayette County Baptist Minister died Wednesday morning, November 2, 2011 at the National Health Care Center in Somerville where she had resided for nine years. She was 83 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Feathers were conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, November 5th at Peebles Main Funeral Chapel of Somerville with Bro. Carl Doyle of Oakland officiating. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Feathers was born March 30, 1928 in Kyushu, Japan. She received her high school and college education in Japan and was married in 1953 to Carl Feathers of Fayette County, a longtime Baptist Minister and U.S. Army Veteran, who died January 7, 1992. Mrs. Feathers was a homemaker throughout her life and also served as an art teacher in the Fayette County Public School System for over 20 years before her retirement. She had been a resident of Fayette County for over 50 years and during this time served as a minister’s wife in many roles during her husband’s long ministerial career.
She was a former member of the Feathers Chapel Baptist Church during their ministry there and in later years, was a member of the Somerville First Baptist Church. She was a devoted Christian throughout her life and her interests included art and family activities. She will be remembered for her pleasant disposition, her kind mannerisms and her neat appearance.
Mrs. Feathers is survived by her son, Kenny Feathers of Somerville, who served as Chief of Police for the Town of Somerville before his tragic accident; and two grandchildren, Blaine Feathers of Somerville and Chelsea Feathers of Somerville.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Randy Glover, Carlton Morris, Harold Feathers, Blaine Feathers, Bud Glover, Kenny Feathers and Chelsea Feathers.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Hood Cemetery Association, 1290 Stafford Drive, Somerville, TN 38068.
