Barbara "Barb" Jean (Dunlap) Smith

Barbara Jean “Barb” Dunlap Smith, resident of Lakeland and retired employee for Schering-Plough Corporation in Memphis departed this life Saturday evening, April 20, 2013 at the Covington Manor Health Care Center where she resided for the past 14 months. She was 77 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance Mrs. Smith were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, April 24th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Kent Bailey of Somerville officiating. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Smith was born January 7, 1936 in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Troy Riley Dunlap and Gladys Dorothy Wilburn Dunlap. She received her education in the Memphis City Public School System and had been a resident of Lakeland for a number of years before moving to the Somerville Community. She was employed by the Schering-Plough Manufacturing Company for much of her life and after retirement from Schering-Plough, was employed in the deli of the Kroger Company in Bartlett.
An animal lover, Mrs. Smith was of the Baptist faith and will be remembered as a sociable person who enjoyed both friends and family. Fishing, shopping, attending concerts and ice skating dance competitions were favorite pastimes. Being with her family and caring for her animals were an important part of her life.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Cathy Foster (Tommy) of Somerville; her son, Michael Davis of Somerville; her sister, Donna Herndon (James) of Oswego, IL; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were James Herndon, Brad Herndon, Tommy Foster, Jimbo Sarrett and Michael Davis.
