BENJAMIN F. (BEN) PFANNSTIEL, former resident of the Fayette Corners Community, United States Naval Veteran and husband of the late Margaret Pfannstiel died Saturday morning, October 10, 2009 at the Signature Healthcare Center in Memphis where he had been a resident for two months. He was 85 years of age and died following a two-month illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Pfannstiel were conducted at 11 A.M. Monday, October 12th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Larry Kendrick, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Smyrna Cemetery in the Fayette Corners Community near Whiteville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Mr. Pfannstiel was born August 20, 1924 the son of the late Ferdinand Edward Pfannstiel and the late Clara Nuhn Pfannstiel.
He joined the United States Navy at the age of seventeen and served during war periods and peacetime for twenty-one years before his retirement as a Chief Petty Officer.
Mr. Pfannstiel was then employed by the State of Tennessee for twenty-three years before his retirement in 1986.
He was the husband of the late Margaret Johnston Pfannstiel who died November 8, 2003.
Mr. Pfannstiel had been a resident of the Fayette Corners Community since 1963 until recently moving to Memphis for health reasons.
He was a Lutheran and will be remembered as a patriotic person who enjoyed special times with his wife and family.
Survivors of Mr. Pfannstiel include his daughter, Margaret Browning (Ronnie) of Somerville; his son, Thomas Bennett of Cordova; five grandchildren: Ragan Martin of O'Fallen, MO; Lauren Pardue of Cordova; Drew Bennett of Atlanta, GA and Jake Bennett and Bryan Bennett, both of Cordova and three great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Jake Bennett, Bryan Bennett, Drew Bennett, Ronnie Browning, Donnie Gross and Erik Martin.
The family requests that Memorials be directed to the Smyrna Cemetery Association or to the Somerville First United Methodist Church.
