Betty Boyd
1917—2010
Betty Walmsley Hutzell Boyd, resident of the Oakland Community and former resident of Pennsylvania died Tuesday afternoon, November 9, 2010 at the Methodist Hospital North in Memphis where she had been a patient for six days. She was 93 years of age and died following a brief illness.
A Family Gathering for Mrs. Boyd was at 2 P.M. Thursday, November 11
th
at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Interment will be in the Lakewood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Cheswick, Pennsylvania. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of Yukon, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Boyd was born September 18, 1917. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Walmsley and Isabela Robertson Walmsley. She was educated in the Pennsylvania Public School Systems and was a resident of Pennsylvania for many years before moving to Fayette County to be near family members.
Mrs. Boyd was a member of the Hoboken Presbyterian Church in Blawnox, Pennsylvania and employed as a salesperson at the Walzer Cleaning Company in New Kensington, Pennsylvania for over thirty-three years before her retirement. Mrs. Boyd will be remembered as an avid reader who enjoyed playing cards and bingo with friends and family.
Mrs. Boyd’s survivors include her two sons, William “Bill” Hutzell (Kathy) of Oakland, Tennessee and J. Robert Hutzell (Rochelle) of Venice, Florida, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Fayette Cares or to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
