Betty Ann (Buffaloe) Chambers

Betty Ann Buffaloe Chambers, longtime resident of the Somerville Community and wife of Carol M. Chambers died Tuesday afternoon, August 21, 2012 at the Methodist Hospital in Somerville where she had been a patient for three days. She was 76 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Chambers were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, August 24th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Dr. Mark Howard of the Christ Community Church in Bells, Tennessee, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Chambers was born February 2, 1936 in Somerville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Hess Buffaloe, Sr. and Annie Lee Hill Buffaloe. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married September 20, 1952 to Carol M. Chambers, retired welder for the National Butane Gas Company in Memphis, who survives.

Mrs. Chambers was an active member of the community before her illness and was involved in retail sales in past years. She also owned and operated “This Old House” Antiques, located in Somerville, before her retirement. She was a member of the Somerville First Baptist Church and will be remembered as a lover of antiques and animals.

She was a strong supporter of her children’s activities during their school years and served as a volunteer in the operation of the Morris-Chambers Athletic Park in Somerville that was named in honor of her husband. Mrs. Chambers also served as a volunteer and opened her home in assisting children in area institutions that did not have family during the Christmas holidays.

In addition to her husband of 49 years, Mrs. Chambers is survived by three sons, Terry Chambers (Trish) of Brownsville, Carlton Chambers (Sherrie) of Collierville, Randall Chambers of Gallatin; three sisters, Mary Hillman of Somerville, Beatrice Massey of Somerville, Jeanette Hampton of Memphis; five grandchildren, Allison Saxon (Oston), Blake Chambers, Ethan Chambers, Tyler Chambers, Lauren Chambers; and three great grandchildren, Miller Baucom Saxon, Molly Hampton Saxon and Sky Chambers.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Clyde Buffaloe, Jr., Steve Crafton, Richard Hillman, Ricky Jenkins, Greg McCaskill, David Robertson, Oston Saxon and Miller Saxon.
Honorary casketbearers were Clyde Brown and Blake Chambers.
