Betty Mae (Blackburn) Collins

February 22, 1930 — September 11, 2016

Betty Mae Blackburn Collins, age 86, resident of Memphis, departed this life Sunday afternoon, September 11, 2016 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Collins were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Bill Hendry of Somerville officiating. Interment was private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Collins was born February 22, 1930 in Blanco, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roe Blackburn, Sr. and Myrtle Bingham Blackburn. She attended school in the Blanco County, Texas School System and was employed as a cook at the City Cafe in Elgin, Texas and was a caregiver before her retirement. Mrs. Collins was of the Pentecostal faith and was a former resident of Shirley, Arkansas for over 20 years before moving in with her granddaughter, Tisha McIntyre and her husband, Ralph, in Memphis, five years ago. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, preparing food and watching Western movies.

Mrs. Collins is survived by three daughters, Mary Nicholson of Memphis, Susan Dempsey of Elgin, Texas, Amy Cleveland (Gary) of Elgin, Texas; five sons, Lee Collins of Bastrop, Texas, Ray Collins (Cathy) of Austin, Texas, William Collins of Memphis, Patrick Collins (Judy) of Shirley, Arkansas, Billy Collins of Elgin, Texas; her sister, Lou Etta Oliver of Abilene, Texas; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roe Blackburn, Sr. and Myrtle Bingham Blackburn and two brothers, Roe Blackburn, Jr. and Willie Ray Blackburn.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
