Betty Marie Qualls Davis, age 77, resident of Somerville, Tennessee, former resident of Mason, Tennessee and wife of the late James E. Davis, departed this life Sunday morning, December 24, 2023 at her home.
Betty was born February 17, 1946 in Brownsville, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Henry Richard Qualls and Louise Haynes Qualls. She graduated from Haywood High School where she was a member of the Beta Club. She was married December 20, 1964 to Jimmy Davis who preceded her in death on July 31, 2020.
Betty was the youngest of ten children and grew up on a working farm. In her earlier years, she was a skilled seamstress. She specialized in everything from curtains and table runners to bridesmaid dresses and even wedding dresses. She was also a professional wallpaper hanger for many years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, cake decorating and traveling. The thing that brought her the most joy was spending time with her grandsons at their school and sporting activities.
Mrs. Davis grew up in Harmony Baptist Church in Haywood County. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Somerville where she was in the Bible Study group and most recently was attending Hickory Withe Baptist Church.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughter, Connie Fleming and her husband, Todd of Hendersonville, TN; her son, Tony Davis and his wife, Katherine of Houston, TX; her sister, Ruth Vestal of Brownsville, TN; her brother, Billy Ray Qualls of Bells, TN; and four grandsons, Collin Davis, Jay Fleming, Luke Fleming and John Davis.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia Edmonds, Mattie Lou Marlar and Mary Jane Cox and four brothers, Melvin Qualls, Floyd Qualls, Leroy Qualls and George Qualls.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Davis were held at 2 P.M. Sunday, December 31, 2023 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with JP Barden, pastor of New Vision Baptist Church in Brownsville, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Collin Davis, Jay Fleming, Luke Fleming, John Davis, Mike Marlar, Greg Davis and David Davis.
