Betty Sue (Miles) Hardin

Mrs. Betty Sue Miles German Hardin passed away on Saturday, July 14th at the age of 75. She died peacefully at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis surrounded by family who loved her dearly.

Funeral Services were at 10 A.M. Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Billy Skinner and Elliott Lambert officiating. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Betty was born in Somerville, Tennessee on January 15, 1943. On October 20th, 1960 she married Glenn German, Sr. Betty and Glenn were happily married for 32 years until he passed in 1993. In 1994, Betty married DJ Hardin and was married to DJ until his passing in 2004. Friendship, love and companionship brought joy to Betty’s life once again in her longtime relationship with Reed Barber, who survives.

Betty is survived by a daughter and a son. Pamela German Modisett (Mike) of Lakewood Ranch, Florida and Glenn German, Jr. (Daisy) of Somerville, Tennessee. There are four grandchildren: James David Cannon (Jackie), Amber Pomeroy (Steven), Danielle Claunch (Michael) and Joshua German (MacKenzie) and eight great grandchildren. Betty also had an “adopted” daughter, Barbara Ann Tatum, who was her wonderful caregiver for many, many years. She is also survived by one brother, James Miles and one sister, Helen Thompson.

Betty was preceded in death by siblings: Ruby Lee Miles Thompson, Zetta Mae Miles Proctor, Bobby and Charles Miles and her parents, Claudie and Lois Miles. There are numerous nieces and nephews and friends whom Betty loved and cherished.

Betty was a student of Fayette County High School and earned her GED later in life. She and husband Glenn had farming interest throughout their lives together. Betty and Glenn owned and operated German’s Grocery Store in the communities of Lambert and LaGrange and the final location well known to the Warren community. Betty and Glenn were well known for their home-cook free lunches served up daily at the store in Warren for friends or family stopping by.

Besides her many friends and beloved family Betty loved butterflies, her flowers, her wild birds and the ducks in her pond and she especially loved cooking and sharing that good cooking with others! The Reverend Billy Graham said,” the greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of faith”. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church in Somerville, Tennessee where she and Reed enjoyed worshipping together. She also had a special place in her heart for her childhood church home-Lambert Community Church and Feathers Chapel Baptist Church where she was a longtime member.

Betty may have left this earth but the legacy of her faith, the memories made with her, her kindness and the love she had for many people she touched will live on forever in our hearts. She will be greatly missed and we look forward to when we “see her later”.
