Elizabeth “Betty” Johnson Mascari, Collierville resident, former resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late Salva J. Mascari died Saturday morning, April 21, 2012 at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown. She was 92 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Mascari were conducted at 12 Noon Monday, April 23rd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Barry Henson of the Collierville First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Mascari was born December 21, 1919 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Gilbert Johnson and Mary Maisie Watkins Johnson. She received her education in the Georgia Public School System and completed her education at the Memphis Business College. She was married February 4, 1941 to Salva J. Mascari, a partner in the Mascari and Sons Produce Company in Downtown Memphis, before his death on May 21, 1979.
Mrs. Mascari was a respected member of the Somerville Community and Fayette County for over thirty years before moving to Collierville ten years ago to be near her family. She was a devoted homemaker and also served as Deputy Property Assessor for Fayette County before her retirement. She was a former member of the Somerville First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Collierville First United Methodist Church at the time of her death.
Mrs. Mascari will be remembered by many as a true “Southern Belle” known for her pleasant disposition and everpresent smile. An avid conversationalist, she had a lifelong love for flowers and received pleasure in caring for her home and yard.
Mrs. Mascari is survived by her son, Phil Mascari and his wife, Ann of Collierville; her granddaughter, Stephanie Mascari; and two great grandchildren. Mrs. Mascari was preceded in death by her son, Richard Mascari.
