Bettye (Forbes) McMillan

May 24, 1937 — March 28, 2012

Bettye Ann Forbes McMillan, a resident of Memphis with family member in the Fayette and Tipton County areas and a retired childcare provider departed this life Wednesday evening March 28, 2012, at the Spring Gate Convalescent Center in Memphis where she had been a resident for three months. She was 74 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. McMillan were conducted at 2 PM Saturday, March 31st at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Isaac Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel of Oakland.

Mrs. McMillan was born May 24, 1937 as Lila Bowman and was adopted at the age of eighteen months by her parents, Albert Forbes and Gladys Rector Forbes. She received her education in the Shelby County Public School System and was a graduate of the Whitehaven High School, class of 1955.

Mrs. McMillan was a lifelong resident of the Memphis and Shelby County areas and served as a childcare provider for much of her life. She was also employed by the Park Bowling Lanes in Memphis for 10 years. Mrs. McMillan was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church and will be remembered by many as a talented musician with the ability to play anything with keyboards. She had a lifelong love for children and received much pleasure visiting those in health care facilities and entertaining the residents with her musical talents.

Mrs. McMillan is survived by one daughter, Terri Ann Rieben (David) of Bartlett; one son, Paul Albert McMillan of Burlison Community in Tipton County;  and four grandchildren, Paula Beloate of Burlison Community, Daniel James McMillan of Memphis, Rebecca Lynn Barnett of Bartlett and Jonathan Clay McMillan of Memphis.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society, 718 Union Avenue, Memphis, TN  38103.
