Bill Churchill, Jr.

William Franklin “Bill” Churchill, Jr., resident of the Laconia Community, former resident of the Fisherville Community and husband of Linda Churchill died Tuesday morning, September 25, 2012 at his residence. He was 69 years of age and died following an illness of several months.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Churchill were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, September 28th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Jack Moore, pastor of the Fisherville First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Fisherville Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Churchill was born May 17, 1943 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. Churchill, Sr. and Margaret Bryan Churchill. He received his education in the Shelby County Public School System and was a graduate of the Bartlett High School. As a young person, he served in the Tennessee National Guard and was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Churchill was employed for many years by the International Harvester Company in Memphis before the company ceased operation and he was later employed in construction and weatherstripping in the Shelby County area. He resided in the Fisherville Community for a number of years before moving to the Laconia Community 13 years ago. He was married August 12, 1988 to the former Linda Starnes, a native of Hardeman County, who survives.

Mr. Churchill will be remembered for his love of horses, roping and team penning. He enjoyed many outdoor activities that included woodworking at his home shop, caring for his yard and the pleasure of being surrounded by family members and friends.

In addition to his wife of 24 years, Mr. Churchill is survived by two daughters, Carmen Carney (Robert) of Collierville, Rhonda Perkins (Van) of Rossville; and six grandchildren, Bobby, Chris, Becky, Matt, Kristie and Scott.

Mr. Churchill was preceded in death by his son, Tony Churchill, who died July 31, 2008.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Bobby Carney, Chris Perkins, Matt Perkins, Van Perkins, Robert Carney and Alfred Bryan.
