Bill Darnell

November 1, 1929 — April 2, 2015

Billy Gene “Bill” Darnell, age 85, resident of Hickory Valley and husband of the late Virgie Mae Darnell, departed this life Thursday morning, April 2, 2015 at his residence.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Darnell will be at 11 A.M. Saturday, April 11th at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home in Caruthersville, Missouri. Interment will be private. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Darnell was born November 1, 1929 in Braggadocia, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, John William Darnell and Florence Ella Newsome Darnell. He was a graduate of the University of Memphis and served his country as a Tech Sergeant in the United States Air Force for 22 years during the Korean War and Vietnam War Periods. He was employed as an engineer at BorgWarner in Blytheville, Arkansas for a number of years before his retirement. Mr. Darnell was married for 54 years to Virgie Mae Darnell, who preceded him in death. He was a resident of Hickory Valley and enjoyed reading, woodworking and computers.

Mr. Darnell is survived by three daughters, Jorganne Culver (Donnie) of Hickory Valley, Stephanie Darnell (Carolyn) of Memphis, Wilma Hansel (Bud) of Memphis; his sister, Johnnie Howell (Danny) of Fairview, TN; 2 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Wallace Darnell; and three brothers, Wallace Darnell, Stephen Darnell and Barry Darnell.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Bolivar-Hardeman County Library, 213 N. Washington Street, Bolivar, TN 38008.
