William Davis "Bill" Lane, a resident of the Oakland Community, retired Computer Operations Supervisor and husband of Shirley Crocker Lane died Sunday evening, January 31, 2010 at his residence. He was 75 years of age and died following a four-day illness.
Funeral Services for Mr. Lane were conducted at 1 P.M. Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Leon Sanderson, officiating. He was assisted by Chris Coil of the Somerville Church of Christ. Personal remarks were given by Mr. Lane's son, Dave Lane. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64.
Mr. Lane was born in Wynne, Arkansas on March 3, 1934. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hector Davis Lane and Annie Belle Jones Lane. After completing his education he was married June 19, 1959 to the former Shirley Crocker, retired Teacher at Harding Academy in Memphis, who survives. Mr. Lane served in the United States Army in earlier years and was a former resident of Memphis before moving to Fayette County seven years ago.
He was employed as a Computer Operations Supervisor for over thirty-five years before his retirement thirteen years ago. He was a devoted member of the Church of Christ throughout his life and was a member of the Somerville Church of Christ at the time of his death. He held a passion for woodworking and enjoyed many hours pursuing this favorite pastime. He also enjoyed beekeeping and will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife of fifty years, Mr. Lane is survived by his son, William Davis (Dave) Lane, II of Arlington, TX; his brother, Robert Wylston Lane of Memphis and his grandson, Luke Davis Lane of Arlington, TX.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were family members and friends.
