Bill Whitby

October 1, 1921 — September 18, 2014

Bill Whitby, age 92, resident of the Oakland Community, retired from International Harvester in Memphis and husband of Nola Whitby, departed this life Thursday morning, September 18, 2014 at his residence.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Whitby were conducted at 11 A.M. Monday, September 22nd at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Rhesa Davis, pastor of the Feathers Chapel Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Whitby was born October 1, 1921, the son of the late Louis Whitby and Katie Warmath Whitby. He received his education in the Crockett County, Tennessee Public School System and served his country in the United States Army during the World War II Period. He was married September 1, 1950 to the former Nola Nelda Howell, who survives.

Mr. Whitby was a resident of the Oakland Community for 38 years and was a member of the Feathers Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville. He was employed with Borg Warner in Memphis for 22 years and was employed as a tool grinder for International Harvester in Memphis for 15 years before his retirement in 1986. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, fishing, cutting trees and splitting wood.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, Mr. Whitby is survived by two sons, Gerald Whitby of Oakland, Kelly Whitby of Oakland; his brother, Louis Whitby of Mims, Florida; and his grandson, Jared Whitby of Apopka, Florida.

Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
