Billy Reed Holliday

Billy Reed “Bill” Holliday, resident of the Hickory Withe community, retired accountant for McDonald Industries and husband of Sadie Brown Holliday died Monday morning, May 21, 2012 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for one week. He was 82 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Holliday were conducted at 4 P.M. Wednesday, May 23rd at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel with Minister Stephen Parker of the Church of Christ in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Holliday was born March 14, 1930 in Marietta, Mississippi.  He was preceded in death by his parents Talmadge Holliday and Eula Mae Houston Holliday.  He received his education at the Tech High School in Memphis and continued his education at the University of Memphis. In earlier years, Mr. Holliday was a member of the Getwell Church of Christ and in later years, a member of Woodland Hills Church of Christ.

He married the former Sadie Mae Brown, a native of Middleton, TN, on June 22, 1951. Mr. Holliday was a devoted husband, father and caregiver of his family. He was instrumental in the formation of Holliday Flowers in Memphis  and will be remembered for his strong work ethics.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Holliday is survived by two daughters Judy Holliday Long (Mark) of Germantown, Leigh Holliday Snodgrass of Memphis; one son Michael Reed Holliday  (Patricia) of Oakland; six grandchildren, Brent Long, Brett Holliday, Reed Long, Amber Snodgrass, Ashley Snodgrass, Sean Snodgrass; and one great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Long.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Steve Barefoot, Audrey Brown, Brent Long, Reed Long, Gene Smalley and Paul Snodgrass.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
