Billy Franklin Miller, resident of the Oakland Community, United States Army Veteran and retired railroad employee departed this life Sunday morning, November 10, 2013 at the Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis. He was 73 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Miller were conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday, November 13th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Wayne Marshall, minister of the Longview Heights Baptist Church in Olive Branch, Mississippi officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Miller was born May 5, 1940 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman Franklin Miller and Clara Broach Miller. He received his education in the Memphis City Public School System and was a former resident of Murray, Kentucky. He was first married to the former Nina “Norma” McKinley, who preceded him in death and was later married to the former Shirley Ann Futrell, who survives.
Mr. Miller served his country in the United States Army during peacetime and was employed as a switchman for the Illinois Central Railroad Company for a number of years before his retirement. He was a Christian and attended the Lambert Community Church in Fayette County. Mr. Miller enjoyed many interests throughout his life that included bird hunting, traveling, dancing, trap shooting and reading. He received much pleasure in earlier years from gem mining and panning for gold.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Miller; his daughter, Tamatha Renee Satcher (Ken) of Southaven, MS; two sons, Robert Franklin Miller of Somerville, Ronnie Miller of Collierville; his stepdaughter, Sherry Stewart (Ken) of Arlington, TN; two sisters, Nancy Jones of Wakeman, OH, Dixie Lee of Lakeland, TN; three grandchildren, James Robert Miller, Sara Elizabeth Satcher, Hannah Grace Satcher; and two step-grandchildren, LeeAnn Stewart and Kenzie Stewart.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Dale Raggio.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Lance Burgess, Glenn Miller, William Satcher, Ken Satcher and George Garrard.
