Billy Gerald Penn, Cordova resident, retired pharmacist, U.S. Army Veteran and husband of the late Shirley Penn departed this life unexpectedly in a two vehicle accident that occurred Wednesday evening, September 26, 2012 in Cordova. He was 77 years of age.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Penn were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, September 29th at the Fisherville First Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Moore of the church officiating. Personal remarks and reflections were given by his Sunday School teacher, Bro. Ken Matthews and other family members. Special music was provided by Georgie Penn, Jessica Peace and Cindy Penn. Interment followed in the Fisherville Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by the Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center – Piperton Office.
Mr. Penn was born March 17, 1935 in Rutherford, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Enloe Penn and Velma Davidson Penn. He was a graduate of the Rutherford, Tennessee High School and received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Tennessee School of Pharmacy in Memphis. He was a pharmacist for over 30 years in the Memphis area and was associated with Georgian Hills Pharmacy before his retirement in 1995.
He served in the United States Army as a young person and was the husband of the late Shirley Grant Penn, who preceded him in death two years and four months ago. Known for his Christian faith and service to others, Mr. Penn was a member of the Bellevue Baptist Church, where he participated in numerous church activities that included the Bellevue Car Care Ministry, assisting those who experience a need for vehicle repairs and assistance.
He will be remembered as a family-oriented person with a deep love and devotion for his family, his church and his community. Known by family as a caregiver to all who helped others throughout his life, Mr. Penn enjoyed gardening, golf and family related activities.
Mr. Penn is survived by three sons, Bradley Penn (Stephanie) of Enterprise, MS, Kimble Penn (Traci) of Memphis, Jeffrey Penn (Cindy) of Collierville; his sister, Carolyn Penn of Jackson, TN; ten grandchildren and one expected grandchild.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Logan Penn, Carson Penn, Levi Penn, Jeff Ward, Clark Davis, Warren Ward, Ethan Howell and Keith Davis.
