Billy "Bill" Gene Floyd

Billy Gene "Bill" Floyd, age 89, resident of Maryville, Tennessee, former resident of Moscow, United States Marine Corps and United States Army Veteran and husband of Patsy Oliver Holland Floyd, departed this life Tuesday morning, May 17, 2016 at the Asbury Place in Maryville.

Graveside Services of Remembrance with Full Military Honors for Mr. Floyd were conducted at 11 A.M. Monday, May 23, 2016 with Bro. Stan Smith, pastor of the Somerville First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. The American Flag was presented by Mr. Floyd's grandson, Lance Corporal Floyd. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Floyd was born March 3, 1927 in Parkin, Arkansas. He was a graduate of South Side High School in Memphis and was married June 3, 1971 to the former Patsy Oliver Holland. He served his country for 23 years in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army during the World War II and the Korean War periods. He served as a Chief Warrant Officer, was wounded in Iwo Jima and was a Purple Heart recipient.

Mr. Floyd was a member of the Monte Vista Baptist Church. He was employed at Draughon’s Junior College where he taught computer programming before his retirement. He was the Dean of Draughon’s Junior College for five years. He was a resident of Memphis for 20 years before moving to Maryville thirteen years ago. Mr. Floyd enjoyed the outdoors, farming and being around people.

Mr. Floyd is survived his wife of almost 45 years, Patsy Oliver Holland Floyd of Maryville, Tennessee; two daughters, Kathy Mazyck and her husband, Ricky, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Angie Holland Cox and her husband, David, of Maryville, Tennessee; three sons, Ronnie Floyd and his wife, Vanniel, of Greenwood, Arkansas, Doug Floyd and his wife, Merritt, of Austin, Texas, Scott Floyd of Beaumont, Texas; his sister, Bobbie Pickler of Memphis; his brother, George Floyd and his wife, June, of Memphis; sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Carrol Floyd and Effie Mae Able Floyd; two sisters, Juanita Davenport, Sue Hall; and his brother, Harry Floyd.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
