BLONA BOLTON MORRIS, a resident of Collierville, former longtime resident of the Somerville Community and Registered Nurse in Fayette County for many years before her retirement died Saturday afternoon, October 24, 2009 at the Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital. She was 87 years of age.
Funeral services for Mrs. Morris were conducted at 3 P.M. Tuesday, October 27th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Dr. Frank Crawford, Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Morris was born November 7, 1921 in Corinth, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Conrad Bolton and Katherine Pearl Chauncey Bolton.
She moved at an early age to Somerville with her family and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School. She completed her nursing training at the McRae Hospital School of Nursing and was married September 7, 1947 to Roy T. Morris, Electronic Engineer for WMC-TV in Memphis and World War II Veteran, who preceded her in death on December 23, 1984.
Mrs. Morris served as a Registered Nurse for the Armstrong Clinic and Hospital for twenty-five years and was then employed for fifteen years as the School Nurse for the Fayette County Board of Education before her retirement.
She was an active member of her community throughout her lifetime and was a devoted member of the Somerville First Baptist Church, where she served as a Youth Sunday School Class Teacher and Youth Group Leader.
She was a former member of the Junior Garden and Arts Club.
Her gracious mannerisms and gentle spirit with a concern for others was as an inspiration to many.
Survivors of Mrs. Morris include two daughters, Ginger Morris Tickle (Bob) of Tomball, TX and Cheryl Morris Ramsey (Steve) of Collierville; a brother, T.K. Bolton of Somerville; and four grandchildren: Wesley Henson, Brandon Tickle, Preston Ramsey and Phillip Ramsey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard Welch Bolton and James Reed Bolton.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Steve Armstrong, Chris Bolton, Tommy Bolton, Miles Morris, Phillip Ramsey and Preston Ramsey.
Dr. John Bishop, Earl Dowdy, Ronnie Harris, Charles Harvey, Bobby Morris, Carlton Morris, Robert Boyd Parker and Allen Sanders were honorary pallbearers.
