ROBERT LEE (BOB) FIREHAMMER, JR., 51, a resident of the Hickory Withe Community, United States Military Career Person and husband of Debra Firehammer died Wednesday afternoon, April 15, 2009 as the result of a vehicular/bicycle accident that occurred on Highway 64 between Oakland and Hickory Withe.

A Funeral Mass for Mr. Firehammer was conducted at 10 A.M. Tuesday, April 21st at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at Cordova. Interment with Full Military Honors followed at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the West Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery on Forest Hill-Irene Road near Germantown. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
A former resident of Cordova, Mr. Firehammer was born March 9, 1958 in Madison, Wisconsin to Robert Lee Firehammer Sr. and the former Phyllis Drogsvold. He entered the United States Navy and received his Master's Degree at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California.
He married the former Debra Lewandowski on May 23, 1987.
Mr. Firehammer was a recently retired Naval Captain after twenty-six years of active duty. He served as an officer on board the USS Samuel B. Roberts when the ship struck a mine in the Persian Gulf.
A devoted Christian and family oriented person, he was a faithful member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Cordova. He practiced his spirituality through his actions and was always available to help a friend, neighbor or stranger in need.
An avid cyclist Mr. Firehammer enjoyed nature and the freedom of the open road and died doing what he loved.
In addition to his wife of twenty-two years, Mr. Firehammer leaves three daughters: Allison Firehammer, Madelyn Firehammer and Elizabeth Firehammer, all of Hickory Withe; two sons, Alexander Firehammer and Eric Firehammer, both of Hickory Withe; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Firehammer, Sr. of Tomahawk, WI; two sisters, Ronda Firehammer of Wisconsin and Kyle Plouhar of Michigan; his brother, Michael Firehammer of Montana and his maternal grandmother, Marjorie Drogsvold of Tomahawk, WI.
