Bobbie Lummus Rhudy, resident of the
Saulsbury Community in Hardeman County and former employee of the First Tennessee Bank departed this life Tuesday evening November 30, 2010 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for a week.
She was 83 years of age and died following an extended illness.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Rhudy was conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, December 4
th
at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. The officiating ministers were Mrs. Rhudy’s nephews, Robert Kingsley and Charles Cate. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.
A native of Tupelo, MS, Mrs. Rhudy was born April 21, 1927. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lummus and Mollie Carnathan Lummus, a family name associated for many years in the operation of the Lummus Cotton Gin System located throughout the South. She received her education in the Lee County Public School System and was a member of the Church of Christ. Mrs. Rhudy was employed in the auditing department of the First Tennessee Bank in Memphis for a number of years before her retirement and was a resident of Memphis for much of her life before moving to her retirement home in the lake areas of Hardeman County. She was well known for her devotion to her family and her love of life. Mrs. Rhudy was a
writer of published poetry and will be remembered as a friend to many.
Mrs. Rhudy is survived by her husband and friend of 66 years, Porter Rhudy, her daughter, Barbara Humes (Hayman), all of Saulsbury, her sisters, Kate Kingsley of Tupelo, MS, Marie Cate of Springville, TN, her six grandchildren, Jennifer Collomp (Jeff) Jonesboro, AR, Jeana Reeves (Steve) of Somerville, Kelly Watson (Patrick) of Scotts Hill, TN, John Rupprecht of Saulsbury, TN, Neal Rhudy of Memphis, Jacob Rhudy of Memphis and eight great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Jeff Collomp, Joey Collomp, Jacob Rhudy, Neal Rhudy, John Rupprecht and Patrick Watson.
