Bobbie Norris (Smith) Thorn

Mrs. Bobbie Norris Smith Thorn, age 81, resident of Oakland, retired bookkeeper and wife of Robert A. Thorn, departed this life Thursday morning, August 18, 2016 at the Ave Maria Home in Memphis.

A Gathering of Family Members and Friends of Mrs. Thorn was from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday, August 26, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville. Interment will be in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Thorn was born May 17, 1935 in Akron, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus Guy Smith and Sara A. Branch Smith. She moved with her parents at an early age to Arkansas and was a graduate of the Crittenden, Arkansas School System. She was married February 14, 1955 to Robert A. Thorn and she was a resident of the Shelby and Fayette County areas for 60 years. Mrs. Thorn was a resident of Oakland since 1999 and was a member of the St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville. She was employed as a bookkeeper at the University of Tennessee and Malone & Hyde in Memphis before her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, her roses and painting.

Mrs. Thorn is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert A. Thorn of Oakland; her daughter, Linda T. Scarborough (Harry) of Apple Valley, CA; her son, Louis A. Thorn (Kim) of Bolivar, TN; and two grandchildren, Christopher Thorn of Oakland and Catherine Thorn of Oakland.
