Bobbie Sue (Magness) Smith

June 23, 1925 — October 14, 2016

Bobbie Sue Magness Smith, age 91, longtime resident of the Macon Community and wife of the late Horace E. “Pete” Smith, departed this life Friday afternoon, October 14, 2016 at her residence.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Smith were conducted at 11 A.M. Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Larry Tubb, pastor of the Macon United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Macon Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Smith was born June 23, 1925 in Mayfield, Kentucky. She moved to the Fayette County area with her family when she was 12 years old and received her education in the Fayette County Public School System. She was married February 15, 1941 to Horace E. “Pete” Smith and was employed with the Sears-Roebuck Store, Pulliam’s Cleaners and served as a caregiver until her retirement.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Macon United Methodist Church and was a homemaker throughout her life. She was very community-minded and willing to always help others. She volunteered with the Collierville Nursing Home for many years and she will be remembered as a selfless individual who always cared for others. Her passion was flowers and she enjoyed watching the hummingbirds. Her family was most important in her life.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Anita Smith Miller (Kenneth D.) of Austin, TX; two sons, David Weldon Smith (Debbie) of Oakland, TN, Dennis Keith Smith of Macon, TN; her sister-in-law, Georgina Magness of Lexington, KY; three grandchildren, Tracy Smith Ryan (Ron), Kenny Miller, Suzie Miller Carter; and four great-grandchildren, Derek Ryan, Kayla Ryan, Cody Ryan and Joshua Carter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace E. “Pete” Smith; her parents, Ory Weldon Magness and Mary Virginia Miller Magness; her sister, Jane Magness Reppond; two brothers, Miller Weldon “Buddy” Magness, Jerry Donald Magness; and her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Magness.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Norman Reppond, Jerry Wayne Magness, Mack Magness, Ron Ryan, Kenneth Taylor and Tommy Wade. Honorary pallbearers included Don Taylor.
