Bobby Ray Armstrong

Bobby Ray Armstrong, resident of the Hickory Withe Community, retired route salesman for Colonial Bakery and husband of the late Frances Haley Armstrong died Tuesday afternoon, January 1, 2013 at the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. He was 80 years of age and died unexpectedly of natural causes.

Services for Mr. Armstrong were conducted at 1:30 P.M. Friday, January 4th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with interment in the Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery in Marion, Arkansas. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Armstrong was born May 8, 1932 in Wynne, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake Gabriel Armstrong and Lottie Mae Woods Armstrong. He received his education in the Arkansas Public School System and moved at an early age to the Memphis area. He served his country in the United States National Guard and was married May 8, 1951 to the former Frances Haley. Mrs. Armstrong preceded him in death on February 22, 2009.

Mr. Armstrong was known as the "Breadman" while employed for Colonial Bakery, Hart's Bread Company, and Forest Hill Dairy, who later sold out to Dean's. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in earlier years and had a special love for his pet cats. Dancing, barbecues, fish fry's and special times with his family were favorite pastimes. He will be remembered for his love of the Atlanta Braves Baseball, Memphis State Basketball and being a big Peyton Manning fan.

Mr. Armstrong is survived by three sons, Bobby Ray Armstrong, Jr. of Hickory Withe, David Wayne Armstrong of Hickory Withe, Jackie Lyn Armstrong of Hickory Withe; two sisters, Mildred McFarland of Hickory Ridge, AR, Lottie Gregory of Little Rock, AR; his brother, Donald Armstrong of Blue Mountain, MS; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
