Robert William (Bobby) Collier, Jr., well-known Fayette County resident and retired farmer and cowboy at heart died Sunday morning, September 23, 2012 at the Methodist Fayette Hospital in Somerville. He was 80 years of age and died following an illness of several months.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Collier were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, September 26th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland Bro. David Reeves of the Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville officiating. Interment followed in the Magnolia Cemetery at Collierville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oaklad.
A native of Hughes, Arkansas, Mr. Collier was born January 19, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert William Collier, Sr. and the former Mary Dean Harrison, early residents of the Collierville Community. He was a graduate of the Hughes, Arkansas High School and continued his education at the Holmes Junior College at Goodman, Mississippi. He had been a resident of the Williston Community in Fayette County for the past 52 years.
He was a member of the Morris Memorial Baptist Church in Moscow and the church property land was donated by the forefathers of Mr. Collier. He will be remembered as a true cowboy, farmer and horseman who enjoyed raising and training quarterhorses.
Mr. Collier is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann Collier of Somerville, Connie Howell (James) of Somerville, Bobbie Anna Ash (Jesse) of Potts Camp, MS; his son, Andy Bob Collier of Dickson, TN; his brother, Johnny Collier (Marilyn) of Ozark, AL; and six grandsons, Trey Ash, Wesley Howell, Will Howell, Samuel Howell, Kenan Collier and Matthew Collier.
Mr. Collier was preceded in death by his brother, Herbert Collier.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Wesley Howell, Will Howell, Trey Ash, Chester Pulliam, Troy Tomlin, Raymond Kelley, James Howell, Jesse Ash, Samuel Howell, Kenan Collier and Matthew Collier.
Honorary casketbearers were Willie Callahan, Ray Callahan, Billy Doyle, W.C. Dandridge and Leslie Kee.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
