Bobby Harris, resident of the Sugar Tree Community near Parsons, Tennessee, retired long distance truck operator and husband of Firn Petrowski Myers Harris, former Somerville Police Chief departed this life Wednesday afternoon, March 27, 2013 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where he had been a patient for four days. He was 75 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Harris were conducted at 3 P.M. Saturday, March 30th at the Parsons First United Methodist Church with Rev. David C. Stewart, pastor of the church, officiating. Masonic Rites were provided by members of the Parsons Masonic Lodge. Interment was private and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Harris was born August 31, 1937 in Pocahontas, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Harris and Ethel Rogers Harris. He received his education in the Hardeman County Public School System and had been associated with the trucking industry for much of his life. He was a long distance truck operator for various companies and also as an independent contractor.
Mr. Harris was a former resident of Southaven, Mississippi and had been a resident of the Sugar Tree Community for the past 8 years. He was a longtime Mason and was a member of the Parsons Masonic Lodge at the time of his death. Mr. Harris was married June 4, 2005 to the former Firn Petrowski of Fayette County, who served as Police Chief for the Town of Somerville before her retirement. Mr. Harris enjoyed outdoor activities and was an avid fisherman throughout his life. He enjoyed family activities and received much pleasure from his pet canine, “Jackie”.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Harris is survived by his daughter, Elaine Ross of Finger, TN; four sons, Robert Harris (Nell) of Walnut, MS, Bobby Lynn Harris of Henderson, TN, Michael Wayne Harris (Amy) of Herndon, KY, Albert J. Harris (Jamie) of Clearwater, FL; his stepdaughter, Dixie Presley of Southaven, MS; two stepsons, Jake Young of Star, MS, Don Myers of Arlington, TN; two sisters, Sue Wilson of Rockford, IL, Carolyn Taylor Kirk of Pocahontas, TN; four brothers, Jimmy Harris of Selmer, TN, Billy Harris of Middleton, TN, Bud Harris of Pocahontas, TN, Leroy Harris of Hinesville, GA; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, eight step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were members of the Parsons Masonic Lodge and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148, Parsons First United Methodist Church, 49 East 3rd Street, Parsons, TN 38363 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
