ROBERT ALLEN "BOBBY" ROWE, resident of Memphis with extended family members in Fayette County, Race Car Driver and U.S. Veteran died Thursday evening, October 15, 2009 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for six weeks. He was 64 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors were conducted for Mr. Rowe at 2 P.M. Monday, October 19th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel near Oakland with Rev. Jack Patterson, Baptist Minister, officiating. Interment was private and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Rowe was born May 6, 1945 in Shelby County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd D. Rowe and Ruth Wolfe Rowe.
He received his education in the Memphis Public School System and was a graduate of the Treadwell High School in Memphis.
He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served in the Vietnam war period for two years.
Mr. Rowe was of the Christian faith and had been a resident of the Memphis area for much of his life. He had a passion for automobiles and was a Race Car Driver for a number of years before his retirement.
He was the recipient of many honors and awards during his racing career and in earlier years was a National record holder after participating in National Hot Rod Association activities.
Survivors of Mr. Rowe include his former wife and the mother of his children, Deanye Rowe of Memphis; his daughter, Jerene Rowe of Memphis; his son, Robert Rowe, Jr. (Jennifer) of Santa Clara, CA; two sisters, Jerene Sykes of Hickory Withe and Tina Dugan of Memphis; his brother, Doug Rowe of Cordova and his granddaughter, Brielle Rowe of Santa Clara, CA.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
