BOBBY LEE SLOAN

BOBBY LEE SLOAN, a resident of the Oakland Community, retired Engineer and United States Veteran died at 8:45 P.M. Friday, December 26, 2008 at his residence in Oakland. He was 75 years of age and died following a two-year extended illness.
A Service of Remembrance with Military Recognition for Mr. Sloan was conducted at 12 noon Tuesday, December 30th at the First Baptist Church in Somerville with Dr. Frank Crawford, Pastor of the church, officiating, and interment will be private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Sloan was born in Durant, Oklahoma on February 10, 1933. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Arnold Sloan and Bessie Lee Dollarhide Sloan. He received his education in the Ponca City, Oklahoma Public School System and served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956.
Mr. Sloan was married May 5, 1955 to the former Patricia Ann Henderson, who survives. Mr. Sloan served as an Electrical Engineer for over twenty-five years with the IBM Corporation in San Jose, California before his retirement in 1990.
He was a resident of California for a number of years before moving to West Tennessee. He lived in Collierville before moving to Fayette County and resided in the Oakland Community for the past 3� years.
He was a member of the Somerville First Baptist Church and had served as an active Baptist Deacon in earlier years. Mr. Sloan had also been a dedicated member of the Gideon Bible Society in past years and enjoyed wood working and golf as long as health permitted.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Sloan is survived by his daughter, Colleen Rodriguez of Oakland; two sons, Patrick Sloan of Lombard, IL and Kevin Sloan of Murfreesboro, TN; his sister, Joyce LeGrand of Enid, OK; his brother, Arnold Sloan of Del City, OK; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
