Bobby Ray Smith, age 64, resident of Somerville and Chief Deputy for the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, departed this life Sunday evening, September 4, 2016 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Smith were conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, September 9, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Kenneth Culver, pastor of the Warren Community Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Smith was born December 5, 1951 in Somerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert O. Smith and Mamie Rhea Smith. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a lifelong resident of the Somerville area. Mr. Smith was dedicated to his profession as a Chief Deputy for the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department for many years. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, his horses and attending the Ames Plantation Field Trials in Grand Junction.

Mr. Smith is survived by three daughters, Rachael Hollis (David) of Oakland, Wendy Phelps (Marcus) of Pass Christian, MS, Erica R. Tatum of Somerville; two sons, Allen Michael Ray Smith of Somerville, Josh Smith of Somerville; his sister, Judy Crawford of Somerville; and eight grandchildren, Tyler Earnest, Sophie Earnest, Nora Kate Hollis, Cheyenne Phelps, Jackson Phelps, Palmer Phelps, A.J. Smith and Gracie Smith.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Joe Thompson, Eric Cook, Glenn Robinson, Kevin Crawford, Gerald Kelley and Ken Crawford. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Kelley, Bobby Riles and Dennis Chearis.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
