Garfield Isome "Buddy" Ragland, a resident of the Moscow Community, U.S Army Career Person, Retired Master Barber and husband of Virginia Ragland died Thursday morning, April 1, 2010 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for 26 days. He was 76 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Funeral Services for Mr. Ragland were conducted at 3 P.M. Monday, April 5, 2010 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. David Parlow, Minister of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, officiating. Interment with full Military Honors followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Moscow.

Mr. Ragland was born October 4, 1933 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Oscar Ragland and Virginia Sue Hardy Ragland. He was educated in Shelby County Schools and completed his education during military service. Mr. Ragland was a Vietnam Veteran and served in the U.S. Army for over 20 years before his retirement. He was a Barber for 52 years during his military career and at the Lifestyle Barber Shop in Memphis and in recent years at Frankie's Barber Shop in Oakland.

Mr. Ragland was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and had been a resident of the Moscow Community for the last 22 years. He was married January 6, 1988 to the former Lois Virginia Hardee, who survives. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and his interests included designing jewelry, woodworking, yard work, traveling, camping, outdoor activities and target shooting.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Allen Ragland of Memphis; Stephen Ragland of San Diego, CA; Joseph Ragland of Anchorage, AK and Clyde Ragland of Denver, CO; seven grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren, seven step-great-granchildren and one step great-great-grandchild.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Marvin Bing, Bobby Crisp, James McClure, Roy Owens, Paul Patrick and Danny Rhea.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Lung Association or Oak Grove Baptist Church.
