BUFORD HOSKINS, longtime resident of the Somerville Community and retired Farmer and School Bus Driver died Friday evening, January 1, 2010 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville where he had been a resident for seven years. He was 81 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Hoskins were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, January 4th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Rodney Danwinkle officiating. Interment followed in the Liberty Baptist Cemetery near Laconia, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Hoskins was born on September 5, 1928 in Fayette County the son of the late Arch Hoskins and Eva Smith Hoskins.
He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a longtime resident of the Fayette County area.
He was involved in farming for much of his life and will also be remembered as a well-known local Flea Market Merchant who bought and sold merchandise in the area to many local citizens.
Mr. Hoskins was of the Baptist faith and also served as a School Bus Driver in earlier years.
He was an avid walker as long as health permitted and enjoyed out-of-door activities that included vegetable gardening.
Survivors of Mr. Hoskins include two sons, Dale Hoskins of Somerville and Daniel Hoskins (Polly) of Hickory Flat, MS; a sister, Elsie Billingsley of Independence, MS; seven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and one great-great-granchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Verlie Pulliam, Doshie Adair, Evelyn Griffin and Willie Mae Hoskins and three brothers: Cecil Hoskins, Enlow Hoskins and Sam Hoskins.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Jeffrey Hoskins, Andy Hoskins, Darrell Hoskins, Larry Hoskins, Alexander Billingsley and Paul Grooms.
Kenneth Hoskins served as honorary casket bearer.
