Calvin Louis “Cal” Stewart, resident of the Hickory Withe Community, well-known real estate and property developer who was the husband of Marie Stewart departed this life Monday evening, December 9, 2013 at his residence. He was 82 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Stewart were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, December 12th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Eddie Little, pastor of the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Stewart was born February 2, 1931 in the Poplar Creek Community of Montgomery County, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Louis Stewart and Lena Higginbotham Stewart. He received his education in the Mississippi Public School System. He served in the United States Navy as a young person and was married July 23, 1950 to the former Marie Ellingburg, who survives.
Mr. Stewart was a former resident of the Fisherville and Eads Communities before moving to the Hickory Withe Community. He had been a resident of Fayette County since 1989 and remained active as a land developer and involved in real estate until his retirement. He was a member of the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church and was a devoted caregiver to his beloved companion before his death. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed many interests that included square dancing, music, playing the guitar, motorcycles and traveling in the family motorhome.
In addition to his wife of 63 years, Mr. Stewart is survived by five daughters, Beverly Stewart of Memphis, Anita Goodman (Jerry) of Hickory Withe, Sherry Heisler (Al) of St. Louis, MO, Pat McIntyre (Richard) of Eads, Regina Reeves (Kenny) of Van Buren, MO; his sister, Mary Sue Hutchison of Bartlett; his brother, George Donald Stewart of Kosciusko, MS; nine grandchildren and a large number of great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Stewart; his sister, Ruby Nell Enck; and his grandson, Steven Link.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Kenny Reeves, Jerry Goodman, Richard McIntyre, Brad Goodman, Brandon Maberry and Rick Chriswell.
