CARL LAVELLE BIGGS

CARL LAVELLE BIGGS, a resident of the Longtown Community and Independent Contractor for much of his life, died at 5:15 P.M. Monday, August 18, 2008 in Memphis. He was 46 years of age and died unexpectedly.

Funeral services for Mr. Biggs were conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, August 22nd at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel on Highway 64 near Oakland with the Rev. Loyd Shelton, Baptist Minister of Rossville, officiating. Interment followed in the Burrow Cemetery of the Burrowtown Community near Galloway. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Biggs was born September 18, 1961 in the Galloway Community, the son of Glen Dean Biggs and Minnie Lou Biggs. He was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was married May 1, 1987 to the former Terri Janiece Nix of Fayette County, who survives. Mr. Biggs was of the Methodist Faith and was employed as an independent contractor for telecommunications companies for most of his life. Although his employment required living in various areas of the United States including Colorado, Washington, Florida, Mississippi and Arkansas, he always considered Fayette County to be his permanent home.

A multi-talented, gifted person and a friend to many, Mr. Biggs enjoyed a variety of interests that included music, fishing, golfing, out of door activities, basketball, and the writing of articles for area newspapers that included the Fayette Falcon.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Biggs is survived by five daughters: Ashley Johnson of Memphis; Andrea and Ellen Biggs, both of Fort Scott, KS; and Mary and Bobbi Biggs, both of Clermont, FL; his son Michael Nix of Somerville; his mother Minnie Lou Parker and Step-Father Victor Parker of Longtown; his father Glenn Biggs and Step-Mother Rose of Hattiesburg, MS; two brothers, Glenn Dean Biggs of the Longtown Community and Eddie Clay Biggs (Gloria) of Arlington and two grandchildren, Isiah and Gabrielle Elizabeth Biggs.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Geoff Payne, Mason Eisenbrandt, Blaine Mattison, Danny Prosser, Mark Davidson and Bobby Kelly.
