Carl Ledonial Edge, resident of the LaGrange Community, United States Veteran, longtime construction superintendent and husband of the late Wilma Ruth Clemmer Edge, departed this life Thursday morning, February 13, 2014 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was 91 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance with Masonic Rites for Mr. Edge were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, February 17th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Tom Davis, a chaplain with Caris Hospice, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Bartlett. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Edge was born March 24, 1922 in Ragland, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Edge and Anna Star Coker Edge. He received his education in the Alabama Public School System and served his country in the United States Navy during the World War II Period. He was married February 12, 1944 to his beloved wife, the former Wilma Ruth Clemmer, who blessed him with over 70 years of marriage before her death on December 11, 2013.
Mr. Edge was a former resident of the Memphis area before moving to Fayette County 25 years ago. He had been involved with construction and building for over 70 years and served as a self-employed construction superintendent in the Memphis area as well as other locations before his retirement six years ago. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Memphis and was a Mason for many years. He held a life membership in the Berclair Masonic Lodge in Memphis, was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rites.
Mr. Edge will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman whose interests included gardening, hunting, fishing and caring for his yard. Mr. and Mrs. Edge enjoyed pleasure traveling and also traveled extensively throughout the United States during his working career. He enjoyed the friendships of many during his long employment with the construction industry.
Mr. Edge is survived by his daughter, Marsha G. McCoy of LaGrange; three grandchildren Andrew McCoy, Mark McCoy, Sherri McCoy; and four great grandchildren, Cole McCoy, Justin McCoy, Bailey Fletcher, Garret McCoy.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Edge was preceded in death by his son, Ronald L. Edge; his sister, Margaret Cannon; and his brother, Fred Edge.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Andrew McCoy, Mark McCoy, Cole McCoy, Justin McCoy, Curtis Vaughn and Cecil Edge.
Honorary casketbearers were Garret McCoy and Bailey Fletcher.
