Carl Gurkin
1927—2010
Carl Alvin Gurkin, Sr., lifelong resident of the Moscow and Rossville Communities, retired Electrician for the Fineberg Packing Company and husband of the late Peggy Jean Fortune Gurkin was discovered Thursday, December 30, 2010 at his residence.
He was 83 years of age and died unexpectedly of natural causes.
Funeral services for Mr. Gurkin were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, January 4
th
at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Billy Adair of Moscow, officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Moscow. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Gurkin was born in Rossville January 23, 1927. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence Alvin Gurkin and Blanche Carpenter Gurkin. Mr. Gurkin was a graduate of Fayette County High School in Somerville and was a lifelong resident of the Moscow/Rossville Communities. He was of the Baptist Faith and was employed as an electrician for much of his life. Mr. Gurkin was an avid outdoorsman and will be remembered for his love of nature and horseback riding. He was a people person who enjoyed the friendship of many.
Survivors of Mr. Gurkin include his daughters:
Ramona Kay Hunter of Lexington, KY, Holly Spain (Greg) of Bolivar; his son: Carl Alvin “Bubba” Gurkin, Jr. (Karen) of Moscow; his sister: Norice Osteen of Moscow; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Gurkin was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Hoskins and his brother, J. C. Gurkin.
