Carl Hinton Sides, longtime resident of the Moscow Community, retired carpenter and husband of Susie M. Sides departed this life Wednesday afternoon, March 13, 2013 at his residence. He was 87 years of age and died following an illness of several months.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Sides were conducted at 4 P.M. Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Billy Adair, pastor at Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville officiating. Interment followed in the Friendship Cemetery at Moscow. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Sides was born May 22, 1925 in the Moscow Community. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Arthur Sides and Minnie Lee McCraw Sides, early residents of the Moscow Community. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married August 31, 1946 to the former Susie Myrick, a native of Alabama and retired 5th grade school teacher at Fayette Academy, who survives.
Mr. Sides had been a lifelong resident of the Moscow Community and was a self-employed carpenter for many years in Fayette County and surrounding areas before his retirement. He was a Baptist and enjoyed a lifelong love of gardening. He will be remembered as a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He received much pleasure in recent years in serving as a caregiver and assisting others in his community.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, Mr. Sides is survived by two daughters, Julia Sides Follendore (Roy David) of Manassas, VA, Jeanette Zysk (Brendan) of Moscow; his son, Carl Brock Sides (Janet) of Memphis; his sister, Sarah Helen Thacker; five grandchildren, Matthew Hollis McLain, Melissa Coriander McLain Pitcher, Christopher David Fiske, Rebecca Lee Follendore Price, Roy David Follendore; and seven great grandchildren, Seth McLain, Zachary Jackson, Skye McLain, Ashlynn Rae Fiske, Joseph David Fiske, Caleb Davidson Fiske and Rose Caroline Price. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Paula Sides McLain, who died in February 1981.
