CARLIS GENE VERBLE

CARLIS GENE VERBLE, a resident of the Whiteville Community and retired Memphis Light Gas & Water Department Employee, died at 3 A.M. Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the Bolivar General Hospital where he was taken after becoming suddenly ill at his home during the night. He was 62 years of age and died unexpectedly.

Funeral services for Mr. Verble were conducted at 3 P.M. Monday, September 22nd at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with the Rev. Loyd Shelton, Baptist Minister of Rossville, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Verble was born December 19, 1945 in Bradford, Tennessee, the son of the late Harlis Malcolm Verble and the late Ruby Thelma Arnold Verble. He was educated in the Public School Systems of Tennesse and Illinois and was a resident of Memphis for 44 years before moving to the Whiteville Community eight years ago.

Mr. Verble served in the United States Army for two years during the Vietnam War Period. He was married December 18, 1970 to the former Nancy Ann Lyles of Memphis, who survives. Mrs. Verble currently serves as Purchasing Manager for Brother International Corporation, at Bartlett.

Mr. Verble served as a Heavy Equipment Supervisor for the Memphis Light Gas & Water Department for over twenty-eight years and retired from this position four months ago. He was a Christian and will be remembered as a family-oriented person who enjoyed camping and special times with his family. He was a collector of knives and coins and prided himself on the ability to "repair anything for anyone". He found pleasure in gardening and caring for his yard.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Verble is survived by his daughter Jody Jeanne Taylor (Dale) of Bartlett; two sons, Thomas Michael Simmons (Elaine) of Pocahontas, TN and Brian Kenneth Simmons (Rhonda) of Booneville, MS; his sister, Jane Meckley (Dick) of Oreana, IL; seven grandchildren: Kristin, Amanda, Blake, Teri, Christen, Haley and Morgan and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Cole.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Military Personnel.
