Carol Jean Vanburg Hagadorn passed away on January 1, 2017, bringing in the New Year in Heaven. She was born in Olean, NY to the late Paul and Alvida Vanburg on November 28, 1934.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Jere Hagadorn. She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Hagadorn and wife Debbie of Jacksonville, FL and Joel Hagadorn and wife Pam of Sebastian FL; a daughter, Julie Overbey and husband David of Oakland, TN; eight grandchildren, Anthony and Jennifer Boston, Jeffrey and Sara Hagadorn, Joshua and Jamie Hagadorn and Matthew and Eric Overbey; a brother-in-law, Bruce Hagadorn and a sister-in-law, Lynn Radack, as well as many nieces and nephews.
For 48 years, Carol was the apple of her husband Jere’s eye. The couple created a home in several places during their time together including; Germany, West Virginia, New York and two decades of retirement in Orange City, FL.; but Lake of the Woods, VA is where they settled down and raised a family. Carol was a mother who was utterly adored by her children. Her plate was always full juggling her roles as a home-maker, dedicated wife and part time banker, but she wouldn’t have had it any other way. Carol was passionate about her family and one of the ways she showed it was through her beautiful talent of knitting. Over the past 50 years, she created hundreds of sweaters, socks, toboggans and blankets that her children, grandchildren and many others will cherish forever. Carol was tried-and-true to everyone in her life and wanted nothing more than to see her family happy, healthy and humble.
In her spare time, Carol enjoyed a friendly competition on the golf course and was known to clear the table with her hand of cards. While her and Jere’s health still allowed, she would count down the days until summer where her children and grandchildren would all be together at the beach.
She was someone who never asked for anything and yet she carried the most generous heart. Services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be contributed to the Alzheimer’s Association online at www.alz.org, or by mail to: Alzheimer’s Association, 1850 York Road Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
